Tell us a bit about your family
I live in Bristol with my husband and two girls 5 & 7.
What is Social Butterflies?
Social Butterflies is a website and social community of women seeking professional inspiration. Women share their business and career stories and hopefully shed light on issues others might find useful and insightful. I also run informal networking events for women wanting to make real life connections away from social media. Check out www.wearesocialbutterflies.com for details of the latest events.
When did you come up with the idea of Social Butterflies?
I started the blog in January this year because I felt frustrated with the lack of non-mummy branded career inspiration out there. I'm a mum first and foremost but I don't feel it defines me completely so I guess the website is an antidote to that conflation of identities: I'm a mum but I also happen to go to work.
What are your top tips for maternity leave?
Take as long as you can! Such a precious short time to have with your baby and why wouldn't you want to fill it with shopping trips, coffee shops and outings to the local pub! If you're lucky to get a sleeper then it's a winner. One of my daughters was the other not so much!
Where are your favourite places to hang out?
I'm Bristol based (we've moved from Hackney 7 years ago). It's a great city because it's compact, cosmopolitan and close to the country.
Have any other Mums (or Dads) inspired?
I'm inspired by those parents who are working several jobs and/or solo parenting. I find it tough and I've got a supportive partner but doing it on your own is hard. Respect!
What's next for Social Butterflies?
Going with the flow - it's the best way! When I no longer enjoy it I'll stop.
