Thinking of planning a staycation in the UK this summer? We highly recommend The Pig in Brockenhurst (New Forest) for a short family trip, a weekend away without the kids, or a day trip for lunch on route to the South West.
We love it because... This beautiful restaurant with rooms is an English country paradise. It has a focus on season, local ingredients (with a menu designed around food sourced within 25 miles) and they grow a lot of it on site too. You can visit and wander round the Kitchen Garden, filled with fresh herbs and vegetables, and teach your little ones about where their food comes from.
We spotted.. Lots of spacious areas for kids to explore (and new parents to feed babies), including a huge bar and library with soft sofas and board games, as well as a relaxed garden terrace restaurant serving wood fired pizzas (no booking necessary) and wide open lawns and gardens to play in. There's also the kitchen garden and a lake in a designated Quiet Area, although that may not be so suitable for excited little ones, but perfect for mums-to-be on a babymoon!
When to go... It's beautiful here in the summer, and would make a lovely addition to a holiday in the New Forest. The restaurant is housed in a glass-walled conservatory room, filled with greenery and herbs, so it's perfect for the warmer months. We visited on route to a staycation in Dorest, as it's a halfway point between there and South London. It would also be a beautiful place to spend a weekend away from the kids...
Top tip... They even do a kids menu! Not too posh (sausages, beans, mash) but definitely nicer than average (white fish, fresh greens) and although it's more than you'd usually pay at £7.50, it's a good size portion and probably the best quality kids meal you'll ever order!
