Hackney's Broadway Market (Saturdays) is just half an hour away from South London on the Overground line, and it's a great spot for shopping, tasting and people-watching.
We love it because... The market itself is mainly food (amazing) with a few craft stalls, and it's surrounded by similar independent shops and foodie destinations. When we went, there was also a band playing to a crowd of little ones too! It's a great area to pick up delicious bits for a weekend dinner (we spotted fresh pasta, breads, cakes, chocolates, cured meats and the lovely Meringue Girls).
Top tip... Look out for other local events and markets which tend to congregate around Broadway Market on Saturdays. Nearby Netil Market also has some fantastic foodie spots in static stalls, and there's usually other events happening under the arches of London Fields station.
It's close enough to walk from Bethnal Green, Haggerston and London Fields train stations. And there's a small playground in London Fields park if the kids need a run-around!
Mums will love the... Good selection of food and drink destinations in the main street itself. We visited the Market Cafe and they were happy to accommodate us with a baby.
