Nicola Eyre, mum to Felix, Cissy and Cassius (and one on the way!), founded Cissy Wears in 2012, selling beautiful children's clothes, interiors and homewares from a boutique in Hither Green, South East London and online at www.cissywears.com. Now the brand has over 50k followers on Instagram and thousands of customers worldwide and we were lucky enough to catch up with Nicola to find out a little more...
Tell us about Cissy Wears
Cissy Wears is a concept store selling design-led products for the modern family. We have two adjacent stores in Hither Green SE13, (one dedicated to children and one selling treats for adults) and a website which ships to customers around the globe.
What tips would you give to women who want to make the most of maternity leave?
To make the most of it! I’m about to have my fourth and I long for those hazy days of pushing my Bugaboo around and drinking coffee. Being able to do baby yoga and spend mornings in the park quietly on a blanket. Pureeing my own baby food for hours on end…. It’s never like that again, because the second time you have a toddler to contend with!
How did you start your business?
I started it on an absolute whim three years ago and had no idea it would become as successful as it is. I’m still winging it now, taking each step at a time and learning new things every day.
Your social media presence is HUGE. Why do you think so many people engage with your brand?
I think I tell it how it is with a brutal honesty. I don’t hide behind an image of a perfect life and immaculately staged photos. I inject a lot of humour into what I do. Cissy Wears is a lifestyle, not just a shop, and as a brand it empowers parents.
Tell us how to create a stylish home that caters for all the family.
Storage is everything and de-clutter regularly. Don’t be afraid to talk to your family and ask them not to give you tons of cheap plastic crap. Although I’d possibly word it better than that…!
What’s next for Cissy Wears?
Who knows?! I hope we continue to grow and I have one or two ideas up my sleeve, but that would be telling….
