A lovely park, a paddling pool, sun loungers, ice cream and an option for shade. What more could you ask for on a sunny day? With the Serpentine as a backdrop, the secluded Hyde Park sun terrace is the perfect day trip for anyone with easy access to London.
We love it because... The lido paddling pool and sun terrace gardens are the perfect summer haven, in such a central spot in London. You may not have noticed when you've wandered through Hyde Park, but there's a paddling pool above the lido cafe, set within landscaped gardens - and a private playground too! The gardens are also scattered with sun loungers for a comfy base to keep an eye on the kids as they jump in and out of the water and fountains. What's more, there are plenty of trees spotted around the gardens if you need a bit of shade or a more secluded spot for breastfeeding.
Top tips... Pack your swimmers too! There's a bridge from the sun terrace over to the serpentine lido for grown up swimmers. You don't need to be a serious swimmer to enjoy the lido though, and on a sunny day there are older kids with rubber rings splashing around too.
Useful info... There's not much information about the sun terrace and paddling pool online but we photographed the signs outside (see below), to give you all the useful info. There's a small entrance fee (children under 3 are free), but once you're in you can stay on the terrace all day and it does feel much safer to let the kids run around here as it's separate from the wider park.
