We love it because... it brings a rural, natural feel to our urban lives! The market is tucked away in Haynes Lane, behind Sainsburys, and features a range of locally-sourced, organic and natural foods from small-scale producers. Think Borough Market, without the crowds and tourists. Choose from a whole range of foods including cheese, bread, beer, cakes, vegetables, fish, meat... the list goes on. Perfect for gathering ingredients for your Saturday night dinner!
We spotted... activities for children, which set this market apart from regular farmers' markets. Activities are varied and some weeks it may be storytelling, while another week may be face-painting. Check out their website for the weekly details. On our visit we saw a whole host of delicious produce on offer including; Hook & Son's dairy products, Gipsy Hill Herbs, Jacob's Ladder farm produce, Blackwood's cheese from Brockley, seafood from Veasey & Son's, Brett & Bailey baked goods, as well as treats from Eat & Mess.
When to go... Saturdays, 10-3pm. Lots of stalls start to close up from around 2pm, so it's best to get there early.
Best of the rest... We also love Maltby Street's Ropewalk market under the arches at Bermondsey - a foodie's paradise!
