Deck chairs? Check. Beach huts? Check. Add a BBQ, kids playground and a glass of Pimms, and you've got a perfect summer holiday. But this one is a lot closer to home....at The Paxton in Gipsy Hill.
We love it because... it's great food, good beers and a lovely environment for parents and children. The decor is comfy yet stylish, and the pub garden is one of the biggest and best in the area. It's generally roomy too, so it's perfect for groups or mums with buggies.
We spotted... Their pop-up BBQ in the summer months is perfect for alfresco dining. We sampled delicious jerk chicken and pulled pork - a step up on your average burger or banger.
Facilities include... a great playground area for kids, plus a baby change and lots of shady spots in the garden. Parking's available on nearby streets but it's also close to Gypsy Hill and West Dulwich train stations if you fancy a walk.
What's not so good... why so many steps?! If you're going with a buggy, take a friend to help. There's a ramp at the front door but once you're in, it's a bit of an assault course.
When to go... make the most of the pub garden on sunny days, or get cosy on one of the sofas indoors. It's open from midday and serves food all day and night.
