Fancy something different for a sunny day in London? We took the plunge and went to Tooting Lido for the day, 3 month old babies in tow.
We love it because… The smell of chlorine and offer of outdoor swimming really does give to a glimpse into holiday life. With the hordes of London locals splashing around, it may not the serene holiday you dream of, but it’s still a glimpse!
When to go... Unless you’re a keen outdoor swimmer, it’s likely you’ll mostly visit on a sunny day with the kids. Beware though, you’re not the only one that will think this is a good idea and the Lido does get very busy causing a pretty lengthy queue to get in.
What’s not so good...The queue! It was the hottest day of 2015 when we visited. Scrap that, it was the hottest day in over a decade and we queued for over an hour in the end, but it was worth it. There was also yet another short queue to use the baby pool. Great for health and safety, that they’re not letting it get too overcrowded, but not great when your little one is already on the brink of a meltdown having been wrestled into a swimsuit and smothered in sun cream!
Top tip…Take a picnic and supplies for the day. Given it can take a little while to get in on a sunny day, it’s great if you’ve got supplies for the queue and a delicious picnic to graze on all afternoon. Remember a soft mat too. We sat on the grassy area around the baby pool which is soft, but if you’re around the big pool it’s only concrete, so not great for kids.
