Head out of South East London for a day trip to the Kent borders, where you'll find majestic deer (or 'reindeer'!) roaming the grand Knole Park National Trust estate in Sevenoaks.
We love it because... The deer are truly spectacular, even for adults! They are so tame and can be found casually strolling around the estate, happy to be amongst crowds. If you take a walk or cycle around one of the paths, you can see them happily wandering around the woods too. There's a real sense of peace and quiet here, despite the huge draw for tourists and the sometimes noisy crowds.
We spotted... There is a map for kids to help them navigate their way around the estate land, plus a little children's play area inside the courtyard of the main house for craft activities and looking at the more fun aspects of the historic mansion.
Top tip... Knole Park itself is managed by National Trust, but you only need to pay to go inside the house (and for the car park). The land is huge so it's a day out in itself to hike around and take a picnic. Nearby Sevenoaks town has lots of little shops too, if you fancy a coffee or something to eat afterwards.
When to go... As it's so big, it's rarely crowded. This would be a fantastic day trip in the winter months at Christmas, when the kids get super excited about seeing the 'reindeer'.
