Maternity Leave Life is all about places to go and things to do in London.
Whether you're eagerly awaiting your first baby or looking for days out for your family of five, Maternity Leave Life features reviews, tips and snapshots of family-friendly spots.
Maternity Leave Life was founded by local mums Lizzie Hammond and Rebecca Evans. Their friendship started when they were babies, after their mums met at a local baby group in south London. Still friends 30 years later, they then gave birth to baby boys on the same day in March 2015.
Lizzie and Rebecca began to venture out as new mums, searching for buggy access and baby change facilities in what used to be their favourite haunts. They now see London in a totally different light...
They launched Maternity Leave Life to share their experiences with other parents in London, and offer a source of inspiration for family days out, as well as spots for the odd occasion away from the kids.
I am born and bred in Beckenham and have now set up family life in Peckham, with my husband and two children William and Sophia. We moved to SE15 in 2012, worrying that we had taken a risk, given it was very much on the "edgy" side, but it’s come up trumps! I really do love living here and am enjoying the local life of Bellenden Road and East Dulwich.
During my pre-pregnancy career I worked in various agencies and in-house in the User Experience field. Most people look at me blankly when I say that, but in a nutshell it's simply helping companies to design and deliver the best experience for their customers. Anything from improving the design of a website through to analysing full customer journeys both in-store and online. Since having the children, I now offer User Experience consultancy through my business Ribbon Digital.
I also set up Hammond Hypnobirthing following William and Sophia's natural births. We offer group and private Hypnobirthing sessions across London, helping more women have a comfortable and empowered birth using Hypnobirthing techniques.
I'm not very good at sitting still and really enjoy exercise, so for us, maternity leave has been all about getting out and about. I've checked out lots of pre and post exercise options, so look out for fitness related posts from me. In spite of my passion for exercise, since being on maternity leave i've also become a bit of a cake connoisseur, so there will be plenty of suggestions for those essential Mummy coffee mornings too!
Originally from Beckenham, before living in Brighton throughout my 20s, I've made my way back to London to start a family, settling in Crystal Palace with my husband.
Our son Rupert was born in March 2015 and as everyone can lament, it's been a life-changing experience for both of us, not only because it's opened my eyes to how different London is when you take a baby everywhere with you! We've now added to the family with the arrival of Ralphie in January 2017. Trust me when I say that having two children under two is tough!
When I'm not on maternity leave, I work as Freelance Copywriter and a Baby Massage teacher - I set up SoLo Baby Massage in 2015, offering baby massage classes in South East London. I'm a fan of foodie places, outdoor markets as well as travel and interiors (cue shots of luscious landscapes and stylish seating) and every girl's favourite, fashion. Although my post-pregnancy wardrobe would suggest otherwise...
